Our Menindee visit, 2018Our time in Menindee for 2018 has come and gone.
The Outback of New South Wales has not seen decent rain for about 2 years, and the country is suffering. We were not able to collect any of the plants left on our list. However, we were able to recollect some species for the Herbarium. Read more about the visit in our blog. |
We are a group of botanic artists who return each year to Menindee in outback New South Wales, Australia.
We are following following in the footsteps of Hermann Beckler, a member of the Burke and Wills Expedition of 1860. Beckler was fascinated by Australian plants and collected 120 of them in the area around Menindee. Our aim is to find all the species on Beckler's list, and create beautiful watercolour paintings of the plants. Our goal is to have an exhibition of our paintings. We also make herbarium standard collections for the National Herbarium in Melbourne and the New South Wales herbarium. |
Beckler's Botanical Bounty ProjectBecklers Botanical Bounty Project has been going for nine years now, with over sixty of Beckler's plants found.

Dr. Hermann BecklerBorn in Bavaria, Hermann Beckler came to Australia in 1856. He was an amateur naturalist and was fascinated by Australian plants. The Burke and Wills Expedition of 1860 was a great opportunity for him to discover more about the flora of arid areas.
